Getting into an accident can be stressful in so many ways. Whether it’s dealing with pain or discomfort, not knowing what to do next, or trying to learn about treatment options, it can be very overwhelming.
In this blog we will layout what it looks like currently when you’re involved in a motor vehicle accident and what your options are. We are going to keep it real simple and strait to the point.
ICBC has streamlined the treatment process to help individuals get the care that they need without having to jump through hoops like years before. Within the first 12 weeks of your accident, individuals are pre-approved for various treatment options which include Chiropractic, Massage Therapy, Physiotherapy and Acupuncture to name a few.
This means, you do not need a doctor’s note to visit any of these practitioners. At the same time, we always recommend checking in with your GP as soon as possible after your accident along with visiting other practitioners for treatment.
ICBC has also set up direct billing for those involved in crashes so you don’t have to pay out of pocket! Make sure to ask the clinic your are visiting if they direct bill for ICBC, and what their rates are, as it will differ from clinic to clinic. In some cases, you won’t have to pay anything at all! All your need is your claim # to start.
This link has all the information needed about being injured in a crash and what to do. There are many useful links found on this page including information about how many sessions you are pre-approved for with each service within the first 12 weeks of your accident.
To keep it simple
- Report your MVA
- Make sure you check in with either your GP or hospital as needed
- Find a clinic that offers ICBC direct billing for the service of your choice (Chiro,Massage,Physio)
- Book your appointment and share your claim # and date of accident
- Take care of yourself and follow treatment plans!
We hope this helps shed some light on what to do if you’ve been involved in an MVA. We have an amazing community of practitioners that we work with closely and are here to help support in any way.

ps. Next month’s blog will discuss why it is VITAL to check in with a chiropractor after a MVA, even if you think it’s just a “small” crash.
Stay tuned 🙂
